Have you read "You Are Special" by Max Lucado? I would definitely add it to your list. It's my favorite.

The only one of these we have is Guess How Much I Love You (a wonderful book). Thanks for the list, I love hunting for new children's books and these look great!

Lovely list! I love The Giving Tree and I was surprised at how much my girls and my nephews love Brown Bear, Brown Bear. I would add Goodnight Moon and Where the Wild Things Are. Oh, and there is a beautiful book called Shaker Lane I think every child should read.

After raising two girls anD having taught younger children for many years, I would have to add three books to your list.
WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
GOODNIGHT MOON
THE MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK
And for the older children
NUMBER THE STARS
BRIDGE TO TARABITHIA

There is another book by the same author of If you give a mouse a Cookie, it is called if you give a pig a pancake. It is really cute as well.

The Giving Tree? Really? Wow, I read it once & got rid of it as fast as I could. I think it has a horrible message. I have Guess How Much I Love You & The Snowy Day, though. I'd add Good Night Moon & Love Song for a Baby. The art on the second one is just beautiful.

I love this list. So many of my favorites are on here. I would add The Way Mother's Are. I loved it as a child and my mom bought me a copy when I had my son and I can hardly get through it without choking up. It's especially cute for moms of boys.

A lot of my favorites are up here! I have to add a few though:

I Love You Forever by Robert N. Munsch
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr.
Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox (or any book by Mem Fox)
Is Your Mama a Llama? by Deborah Guarino

The Giving Tree always makes me cry so much b/c the boy is so selfish. We own it, but I'm not sure how often I'll read it to my son. I do love Shel Silverstein though!
