Our Favorite Christmas/Winter Books ( & Giveaway!)

  at 12/11/2009
Giveaway closed! Winner will be announced soon!

I love books and I love Christmas. Basically the two of those together makes my heart sing.

Here are a few of our favorite Christmas and winter books.

1. The Mitten by Jan Brett :: I love all her books!

2. Red Ranger Came Calling by Berkeley Breathed :: I love all his books too. He's one of our favorite authors.

3. The Night Before Christmas :: This is a classic. I haven't found a favorite author for this book though - any suggestions?

4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

5. The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats :: So simple, yet so sweet

6. The Polar Express :: also has numerous authors

7. Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson (thanks Kristin!)

8. The Bible :: (Like duh.) Nothing better than the real story my friends!

Giveaway!

I can't help myself. My last children's book giveaway was so fun! At the bookstore today, well, every time I visit the bookstore, I have this uncontrollable thing that happens to me. I can't help myself but buy books. The fact that I walked out of there with only two is really quite a miracle.

This giveaway is for two books that I love. There will be two winners- one will get The Mitten, the other will get The Snowy Day. Both are board books. The Snowy Day is an "oversized" board book.

yes!

The very best thing about Christmas, in my opinion, is that my husband doesn't have to work between Christmas and New Year (the auto industry in Detroit pretty much shuts down that week every year) so we get to have him home for a whole week. It's wonderful!

My all time favorite part of Christmas is that our hope, faith and love in Christ is renewed every year. We get the excitement of welcoming a new baby every year! I also enjoy seeing the live nativity at our church, and I'm so excited that our 2-year-old is really getting into the holiday this year.

I love the quiet "down time" that our family enjoys together the week between Christmas and New Year's. It's my favorite week of the year!

There are so many things I love about the holiday season, but I think my favorite tradition we've made so far is driving around looking at Christmas lights. We fill up a thermos with hot cocoa and drive through some gorgeous neighborhoods and just look at all the Christmas decorations. My daughter just loves it. I especially like this Christmas because my son turns 1 on Dec 28th:)

My favorite thing about Christmas is spending time with my family. Last year, my husband and I celebrated Christmas morning in our first house. This year will be even more special because we will get to celebrate Christmas with our 3 month old daughter...what better gift could I ask for?

I love going to our Christmas Eve service, driving by Christmas lights on the way home, reading the Christmas story and opening one present (PJs) before the kiddos head to bed. And, though it's not a book, our current favorite Christmas DVD is The Very First Noel!

I love Christmas! Getting everyone together gives me the chance to see my children play and enjoy their family members.
My favorite book/movie would have to be the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss.

I think you'd get a kick out of the gift Lucy's grandparents gave her for Christmas this year. They sent a copy of The Night Before Christmas, but when you open it to any given page it plays a recording of THEM reading that page to her!

Since they're 3,000 miles away and we don't get to see them anywhere near often enough I'm really touched by the gift.

My mom always finds the best gifts. I like to think I've inherited some of her gift-giving skills. Giving presents is one of my favorite things about Christmas.

Hey, I don't want to be picky, but Bear Stay Up For Christmas is actually illustrated by Jane Chapman and written by Karma Wilson. Karma Wilson also wrote one of our Christmas favorites: Mortimer's Christmas Manger.

Favorite things about Christmas? Just one? I love sitting on the couch at night with no other light on but the tree lights. So peaceful.

The Mumpowers said...

My favorite part of Christmas? Do I really have to pick just one? :) Well, of course #1 is refocusing on the miracle of the birth of Jesus. I also love seeing the excitement in my 14-month-old daughter's eyes when we see Christmas lights or when we light the tree each night.

We just discovered "Snowmen at Night." Such a cute book. I love how Christmas transforms an entire month for me and helps me put things into perspective as I prepare for the next year. Words like "magical" seem corny, but I think there's truth to that.

What I love about Christmas is to see the reaction on the face of my son when he sees decoration ligths. When we are in the car and he sees something with full of lights, he says wow over and over. Even something very simple makes him say wow. :)

I love setting up our Christmas Nativity with my kids. Brings such meaning to the holiday and a good reminder of why we celebrate. One of my daughter's favorite books is "Olive the other Reindeer"
