Home Sweet Home

  at 1/18/2010
I can finally say.... we're in our new house! Yippee!

Friday evening my husband and I moved everything out of storage, into the uhaul, then out of the Uhaul and into our home. It was freezing and exhausting, and I must have gained an inch of muscle in my biceps. I have no idea how we managed to lift the washer, king size bed and all. Bed's are just an awkward shape to move. I think I should be on survivor, don't you? I would win the strongest women alive contest. At one point my husband and I were bickering back and forth, because he was frustrated that I wasn't lifting whatever it was the right way or whatever and he said, obviously without thinking, you're not very strong. And my goodness. I looked at him and said ARE YOU KIDDING ME? First, I push a seven pound child out of me without medication and now I lift a washing machine and a couch with my bare hands in ten degree weather. Do you know who you're looking at here? Huh honey pie?

After we were finished I wanted to cry myself a lake and float in it while sipping a margarita. But the lake was frozen and I'm really not into ice fishing, so I had myself a Diet Coke instead.

It was so fun unpacking all our boxes. If you ever feel sorry for yourself and think that you don't have enough clothes, or if your kids complain about having no toys, pack up all your things for a couple months. You really forget that you have so much! I kept pulling things out and going oh this is so cute! I forgot I had this! I thought I was a horrible mother and depriving my child of toys, but turns out he has plenty.  Then there were some things that I thought, why did I bring this all the way across the United States? Now my closet is too full and I have way too many options. Each morning I've now got to decide what I'm going to wear, rather than just picking from a few shirts!

Tonight will be Lucas' first night in his own real bed in his own room in almost two months. I think I'm really going to miss having him in my room with me! Although, I am very excited to start sleeping at night again. I'm going to start night weaning him (again) and hopefully he'll be out of all his bad habits soon.

Many pictures and stories to come!

I'm glad you're finally in your new house! Congrats. The unpacking is definitely a process. I think the easiest rooms to get done first are: your bedroom, the bathroom. When I unpacked and set up my kitchen we were moving things around for months, trying to figure out where to store things for the best "flow." Good luck!

Oh yay! I'm so happy for you! Although it was a lot of work, I'm sure you feel very accomplished and that it is all worth it now that you are in a permanent place : )

Congrats on being moved in Samantha! That has to feel sooooo awesome!

When my Hubby was finishing our basement, I had to help him carry drywall down the stairs, and tat stuff is HEAVY. Well, I am only 5'4" tall and obviously don't have the arm span of a 6'1" man, and he was getting irked at me because I was having trouble holding on to the drywall, because my arms weren't quite long enough to hold each side as we were carrying it down the stairs. I wanted to drop it on his head!

Have fun getting all your things organized and decorating. I hope things go well with Lucas transitioning to his own room!

Good to have you back!

Congrats on the move! Moving can definitely bring out the worst in a couple. Been there done that lol. I just love the idea of packing up everything you have in order to appreciate it. I absolutely understand what you mean. We moved in September and I'm still finding stuff in the few boxes we still haven't unpacked. It's like Christmas morning every time I open another box :)

Way to go mama!!! You are strong! When we move in May we are paying people. I have a bad back and we can never get all of our friends to help out so we end up doing it all and I can't do it anymore!!
I am glad you are all settled in.

I bet it feels great because not only do you have room to move, have all your stuff and such, but you are in a space that is YOURS!

You most definitely ARE strong. You did the right thing to correct your husband on the spot! I can't believe you moved that stuff, and when it was so darn cold! You deserve a margarita!
