Water Table Fun

  at 9/02/2010
I've said it before... but this kid knows how to have fun.

And me? Well... I watch him from a (small) distance and marvel at him and let him explore as much as he wants.

I believe children should be allowed and encouraged to get creative, be messy, get dirty, do whatever the heck you want... as long as you're not putting yourself or anyone else in danger, of course.

Supervised activities. Obviously.

So, yesterday, when he started to climb in the water table full of left of rain water in the middle of the day with clean clothes on, I (honestly and truly) didn't hesitate for a second. I mean, I thought about it. Um. What are you doing? You're wearing clothes. It's not hot out! That water might be cold! But, you know, if you want to play in the water table, go for it.

And he did.

We were just hanging out at home. Now, if we were about to leave or he was in dress up clothes or we had plans to do something soon, that might be a different story.  :)

But he was bored and I told him to go play outside.

So he did.

I think he was a little surprised at how cold it was!

But that didn't stop him at all. He just kept climbing in and out, splashing the water and laughing. He was having a great time and was completely soaked by the end of it.

I love him.

{I want to  interrupt this scheduled broadcast to remind all parents to always keep an eye on their kids while they are playing in/around/on water. I would never have let Lucas play in this water table if I wasn't right there watching him.  There were a few times when I had to help him get down, and watch him carefully as he tried to put his face in the water. Water is scary, especially for adventurous toddler boys. Be safe!}

Super cute! I love that you let him get into things without hesitation! I need to work on that! :) I am realizing that little boys LOVE to get into everything! In the end they do look awful cute when they are soaking wet or dirty from head to toe!

Looks like lots of fun! I love that you just let him play and discover (while watching of course). I've been trying to do the same...just hard sometimes...thanks for the inspiration :)

His face in that photo is priceless. If you didn't let him have fun like this think of all the pictures you wouldn't be getting! =)

I think that is the best kind of Mom to be : ) I love it! I love that you let him play and explore and he had fun! Life is WAY TOO SHORT to stress about something like that : )

Some of the best memories are when I've "let" Kieran get messy or do something that I wouldn't have urged him to do. :)
