Alaska

We live in Anchorage, Alaska.

Alaska was the very last place I thought I would ever be living. EVER.

Here’s a little background on how we ended up here...

My husband and I were both born and raised in Oregon. (Go Beavers!) The following months after my husband graduated college, he began looking for jobs in his field -- teaching. He applied to, what it seemed like, every school in the area, and every surrounding area.

There was a job opening in Anchorage for an elementary school teacher and when my husband brought up the idea to me, I immediately said no. So, he continued to apply for more jobs (which were slim) in Oregon and surrounding cities. Several months later, and still no job profession, another position in Anchorage became open. He asked me about it again and this time I said, fine, apply for it. If you get the job then it’s obviously meant to be and we’ll move there.

When I said that, I really really didn’t think he would get the job.

A couple weeks later, he got the job offer. It was early November and they wanted us there in 2 weeks. We moved ourselves and Lucas (8 months at the time) to Anchorage, during the darkest and coldest part of the year -- the day after Thanksgiving. It was a crazy, crazy ride. I mean, who moves themselves and their child to a place they have never been before? What if we absolutely hated it?!

It was called, "close your eyes, go for it, and TRUST."

Even now, I have no idea what we were thinking. But, I’m so glad we trusted and took a leap of faith, because we absolutely LOVE it here! God's plan is always - ALWAYS - perfect.  Alaska is beautiful and there is tons to do!  There are only two main things missing here and that’s football and family. It is very hard having no family around. It's mostly hard around holidays and birthdays. It's also been hard to make new friends and start over, but we've met some amazing people so far. We are thankful for every minute we do get to spend with our family when they visit and we soak in every moment with them.

So, that’s a little background on how we ended up in Alaska! We’ve lived here 1.5 years and still have so much to explore and discover in this state.

I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions about Alaska (I had a ton of them too before I moved here!) so I want to truly show people what it’s like to live here and how amazing it can be!
